Welcome to the Bowie Volunteer Fire Department

Part of the Prince George's County Fire/EMS Department, the Bowie VFD is a full service Fire / Rescue / EMS Department responsible for protecting the fourth largest city in the State of Maryland by providing 24 hour emergency services to the citizens and visitors of Bowie, Maryland and surrounding areas.

Our department is composed of three stations with primary response area of approximately 28 square miles and a population of over 54,000.

Bowie VFD Participates in Baskin Robbins Ice Cream Night

The Bowie Volunteer Fire Department would like to thank Baskin Robbins and our local citizens for there support of the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation with their annual .31 cent per scoop ice cream night. Volunteer and Career personnel from station 43 staffed the Engine, Tower and Ambulance, as well as Chief 43A (Bloom), Chief 43B (Howard) and a member from the Bowie Auxiliary. Vehicle Strikes Deer on Crain Highway -- No Injuries

During the evening hours, Company 43 was alerted for a vehicle accident, possibly involving a vehicle striking a deer in the area of Crain Highway and Central Avenue. Engine 843 (Lt. Bushee) with 4 volunteers and Ambulance 843 were dispatched to the call. Acting Chief 839A (Howard) was in the area and added himself to the call. Volunteer and Career Members Support Christmas in April

Volunteer members of the Bowie VFD and the career staff assigned to station 43 participated in the Christmas in April project held on Endicott Road (43's first due). Volunteer and career staff members raked the yard, mowed the grass, cleaned the house, fixed what could be fixed, replaced what could be replaced, painted and did just about everything imaginable. Van Versus Pole on Church Road South

In the afternoon hours, Engine 843, Ambulance 839 and Squad 820 were dispatched for the personal injury accident at Church Road South and Mary Bowie Parkway. Engine 843 arrived on scene to find a van versus a pole and established command. After surveying the damage to the vehicle and the patients, the Lieutenant from Engine 843 requested an additional basic ambulance, which brought Ambulance 846 to the scene. Squad 820 was in service. Training and Breakfast with Volunteers from 39 and 43

Volunteer members of stations 39 and 43 dedicated their Sunday morning to participate in a flashover training exercise at the Prince Georges County Fire & EMS Training Academy. The Volunteers met at Station 39 and loaded up on Engine 391 to make the trek to Cheltenham. Fatal Vehicle Accident on Central Avenue

During the morning hours units from Company 43 were alerted for a vehicle accident with the possibility of entrapment at Church Road South and Central Avenue. Company 43, with two crews in quarters responded with 3 volunteers on the engine. Engine 843 arrived on the scene to find "as dispatched" with 1 vehicle into a pole with one trapped and established the Central Avenue command. More...
 
Shooting in Company 39's First Due

As Volunteer members from Company 39 were preparing the station for the annual officer installation banquet, the sounds of sirens and tires squealing were heard from the adjacent IHOP. Several County and City police cruisers were responding to a priority incident. Seconds later, the station sign-boards were alerting station 39 to respond with the engine and ambulance for a shooting, possibly involving a police officer, at the intersection of Annapolis Road and Highbridge Road.
